Dalrymple man gets drunk and assaults his partner after leaving an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting

A man left an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to get blind drunk.

And police were forced to arrest him out of fear he would harm himself.

But not before he assaulted his partner.

Craig Shearer, 27, of Barbieston Terrace, Dalrymple, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court.

He admitted assaulting his victim by seizing them by the throat and pushing them on the body in York Street, Ayr, on June 12.

Fiscal depute Scott Toal said the complainer and Shearer were in a relationship for a year.

They had been living together for several months prior to the incident.

Shearer’s partner tracked him down in a bar but the accused was so drunk he fell repeatedly between leaving the car and getting into his home.

At this point he grabbed his partner by the throat.

Mr Toal added: “Police were contacted, not so much for the assault but for fear he would harm himself.”

Shearer’s solicitor said: “He had been at an AA meeting but gone and left it.”

Sheriff Desmond Leslie deferred sentence on Shearer until January 14 for him to stay out of trouble, adding: “You will be admonished if all goes well.”
