Dalry community bids to spring sports pitch back to life

A community bid is being made to bring a sports pitch back to life.

A steering group of Dalry Community Properties Trust is looking to take on the multi-use games area (MUGA) near the school.

And that would allow local groups to use a facility which has been unavailable for several years.

Sarah Ade from the group said: “It’s not been used for about eight years because the surface hasn’t been cleaned.

"It’s a facility that should be well used and we thought it should be brought back into use.

“We have a really active group of young people who play basketball and it would be a brilliant place for them to practice.

“There’s people who’d like to play tennis and there’s other groups.”

She added: “We’re trying to make sure the facility isn’t lost to the community as it’s a valuable asset.”

The trust is looking to take over the facility from the council using the community asset transfer process.

And part of that has included showing there is a desire from local people to use the site – be that for clubs, youngsters or sport.

Sarah said: “We have to do a business plan which would show there is a need and demand for it in the community and would be a benefit for the community.

“Lots of people got in touch and we’ve had ideas like a walking football club, wheelchair basketball, a tennis group and I know the school would use it regularly.”

Anyone who would like to comment on what the pitch could be used for should email glenkens-muga@outlook.com.
