Dalmarnock Road incident: Glasgow residents evacuated over 'suspicious item' as bomb squad attend

Police have confirmed that a suspicious item was discovered in a property in Dalmarnock Road.

Bomb disposal experts remain at the scene of the incident in the east end of Glasgow and a section of the road is shut off to all traffic and pedestrians.

Police Scotland attended the scene at around 4.30am and confirmed that properties surrounding the address have been evacuated.

Inspector Stevie Kinvig from London Road Police Office said: "As part of an ongoing police enquiry, officers attended an address on Dalmarnock Road around 4.30am on Friday, 17 July, 2020 when a suspicious item was found within.

"Residential properties have been evacuated and roads surrounding the area have been temporarily closed.

"There are no injuries and the EOD are currently in attendance.

"Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident."

The Royal Navy earlier confirmed that a bomb disposal team are at the scene to support officers.

spokesman said: "I can confirm that a Royal Navy bomb disposal team from Northern Diving Group, based at HM Naval Base Clyde, are attending the scene in support of Police Scotland.

"Drivers are advised to use an alternate route."

Glasgow City Council has also advised drivers to avoid the area and use a different route.

The Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) said: "Due to a Police incident, Dalmarnock Road is closed eastbound at Springfield Road until further notice.

"Drivers are advised to use an alternate route."
