Dalmarnock Bridge incident: Residents evacuated as 'unexploded device' recovered from River Clyde

Police have evacuated a number of nearby homes following the discovery of an unexploded device in the River Clyde nearby.

As reported on Glasgow Live, officers have closed off Dalmarnock Bridge, on Dalmarnock Road in the city’s east end.

The ongoing incident follows a discovery by members of Glasgow Magnet Fishing group, who are believed to have found a grenade in the river.

The group has shared photos, belpw, of the items found and stored in a nearby grit bin.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that nearby residents have been evacuated ‘as a precaution’.

She said: “Police were called around 1.40pm today flowing the discovery of an unexploded ordnance device near Dalmarnock Road in Glasgow.

“Officers are currently in attendance and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

“A number of nearby houses have been evacuated as a precaution.”

UPDATE - Police confirm that the road and bridge have now reopened after the attendance of bomb disposal experts.
