Dallas police chief provides news details on shooting, investigation

DALLAS _ Authorities are combing through 170 hours of body-cam video and talking to more than 300 witnesses as they investigate Thursday's shooting, Dallas police Chief David Brown said in a news conference Monday morning.

The police chief clarified initial reports that seven police officers were injured, in addition to the five dead. He said nine officers, including two El Centro police officers, were injured in Thursday's shooting.

Two civilians, including a woman shot while protecting her sons, who were injured talked about their experiences at a news conference on Sunday.

At the news conference Monday, Brown said 11 officers shot back at Micah Johnson. Two of them used the explosive device that eventually killed Johnson as he was holed up inside a parking garage in downtown.

The shooter wrote the initials "RB" in his own blood in the parking garage before he died. Police are still trying to figure out what that means.

While talking to negotiators after the shootings, Johnson asked how many officers he had killed, Brown said.

"The person obviously had some delusion," he said. "The person was also very committed to killing officers."
