Dallas Cowboys slammed for "throwing Dak Prescott under the bus" in brutal rant

Dak Prescott was "thrown under the bus" by the Dallas Cowboy's social media team in the wake of Sunday's playoff elimination at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers and the person responsible should be fired, believes NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, who believes the Cowboys organisation should have done more to protect the quarterback after his dismal divisional-round performance in the 19-12 defeat at Levi's Stadium.

The 29-year-old threw two ugly interceptions and could not produce in the big moments of a low-scoring contest in which the Cowboys' defence and special teams put Prescott in a position to lead them to the NFC championship game, leading to widespread criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Even his own team's Twitter account drew attention to the matter, posting a series of unusually objective assessments from an in-house outlet in the aftermath of the loss.

"Dak Prescott gave away the ball twice in the narrow loss to the 49ers, in a matchup the Cowboys had a chance to win if they didn’t again generate self-inflicted wounds," the offending tweet read.

Hall-of-famer Sharpe, speaking on Undisputed, shared his disbelief at the way the Cowboys handled their communications after their season was ended by the 49ers.

"I've got a huge problem with this," he said. "This is some bulljive. This is an official team account and at first, I thought they were hacked and then I looked and it was still up, so clearly it hasn't been hacked.

"This came from a team official that runs their social media account and thought it was OK to throw Dak Prescott under the bus.

"Teams are very conscious not to throw their superstars under the bus, especially from their team account. The Lakers, when they lost a game last year, they never put Anthony Davis or LeBron James' picture up during the loss.

"Tampa (Bay Buccaneers) last week, when they lost, there was a picture of Mike Evans, there was a picture of Todd Bowles, but there was no picture of Tom Brady. When the (Kansas City) Chiefs lose, there is no picture of Patrick Mahomes.

"That is normally the way it goes, so basically you are throwing Dak Prescott under the bus and saying the reason you lost this game was because Dak Prescott threw two interceptions."
