Dallas Cowboys news: Jalen Ramsey rumours continue and rival running-back linked

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to build on last season, where they fell short of the NFC Championship game once again.

Now that the off-season is here, trade talk is in full flow as players are opening up about their new requirements, while some are already being told whether they are wanted or not by the franchise. With free agency set to open on March 15, it's the calm before the storm as teams plot their spring moves.

The Cowboys already have some of the best talent across the league on both their defensive and offensive line, but could use a boost to really bolster their Super Bowl dreams. Here, Mirror NFL bring you the latest round-up of Cowboys news, with some big names up for grabs.

Cowboys in for Jalen Ramsey

The Los Angeles Rams have announced that they are willing to listen to trade offers for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and the Cowboys are said to be one of the teams interested in picking up the three-time All-Pro. The Cowboys passed up the opportunity to draft him back in 2016, but could now move for the Rams star.

With the Rams slightly over their salary cap, and with a rebuild underway under Sean McVay, trading Ramsey does make sense from their point of view. And with the Cowboys wanting an elite cornerback to partner Trevon Diggs, it could be an unstoppable partnership.

However, the Cowboys have been criticised in recent times for not following through with deals when linked with the big names, and they'd have to give up a lot in order to bring him in. They too are struggling for cap space, so would have to make some serious moves to land the Rams star.

Saquon Barkley would be a "dream scenario"

With New York Giants running-back Saquon Barkley now heading for free agency, there could be an almighty scrap for the talented 26-year-old. Barkley is one of the most exciting running-backs from across the league, and it looks like the Giants may have to let him slip from their grasp.

The Cowboys are already stacked in the position, but claims that Ezekiel Elliott could be traded are starting to ramp up, and Tony Pollard looks to be heading for free agency. CBS sports writer Cody Benjamin thinks that Barkley could be the answer - while "robbing their rivals" in the process.

"Barkley is certainly worthy of an earlier pick, but at a devalued position, you can see why he’d slide," Benjamin wrote. "With Tony Pollard headed for free agency and Ezekiel Elliott’s future unclear, the Cowboys could give Dak Prescott an unexpected boost of skill talent by pairing him with the rejuvenated Giants star. And they’d be robbing their rivals of a freakish athlete in the process."

Ezekiel Elliott could take pay-cut

It's very much a possibility that Elliott could be traded this off-season, but it seems that the running-back could save cap space in other ways - from his own pocket. Fans are starting to lose patience with Elliott as it appears he's running out of gas in recent seasons, but he's reportedly willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Cowboys.

Elliott signed a six-year £75.15m ($90m) deal back in 2019, which was a mammoth deal at the time. It was met with some criticism back then, but fans certainly don't think it's good value now after an underwhelming 2022 season from the Cowboys no.21.

But Dallas News previously reported that Elliott would take a pay cut to help with cap space, and that he wants to stay with the Cowboys. It looks like it could be the only option if the Cowboys wish to keep him, especially with his trade value declining.
