Dalkeith Country Park Farm 'devastated' after three days of vandalism costs thousands to fix

Dalkeith Country Park Home Farm has been the victim of three days of selfish vandalism from an unknown source.

The farm, which is situated within the grounds of Dalkeith Country Park estate near Edinburgh is home to 100 cows, around 100 horses and ponies and also grow all of their own haylage, hay and silage - some of which they then sell.

The farm has had hundreds of wrapped hay bales slashed with 'a sharp object or knife', resulting in thousands of pounds of wasted food for livestock - the farm has written on Facebook that they "are struggling to cope with the damage".

One Facebook user replied: "Clearly the cretin responsible doesnt have horses to be fed through the winter!!!"

Alongside the damage to the bales - some of which would have been sold on had they not been vandalised - signs and a gate have been pulled down repeatedly.

One person commented on the damage: "It's not kids, this is someone who knows what he is doing, cut exactly the same all 3 times. Takes a proper knife to cut through the wrap."

Another added: "Who do people think they are!? So much time and effort put into making these bales to feed livestock. I pray the culprits are found and punished."

One local suggested launching a GoFundMe to help the farm pay for CCTV cameras to catch the culprits.

Edinburgh Live have contacted Midlothian Police for comment.
