It stars Doctor Foster and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell star Bertie Carvel as Adam Dalgliesh, a policeman and a poet who is also a widower.

The policeman will solve 'unusual murders' and the characters in Dalgliesh come from the mind of P.D. James one of Britain's most famed crime writers, known for Death Comes To Pemberley, Children of Men and An Unsuitable Job For A Woman.

When is Dalgliesh on TV?

The show will start on Thursday, November 4 at 9pm on Channel 5 and catch up service, My5.

The second part of the first story will be on Friday, November 5 at the same time.

The second story will be broadcast on November 11 and 12 while the third story will be screened on November 18 and 19.

Who's in the cast?

Joining Carvel are Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) as Charles Masterson, Richard Dillane, Amanda Root, Mirren Mack, Natasha Little, Paul Mallon, and Siobhán Cullen, amongst others.

Where is it filmed?

Dalgliesh is set in England but primarily filmed in Northern Ireland, around Belfast.

Back in June, Union Street in the city was completely transformed into a '70s market.

Sixmilewater Park in Ballyclare was also used for filming, too.

What is Dalgliesh about?

According to a Channel 5 synopsis, the series “follows Dalgliesh’s career to present day as he solves unusual murders and reveals buried secrets,” while each of the three murder mysteries “will offer its own unique setting and extraordinary cast”.

The three stories to be adapted are Shroud for a Nightingale, The Black Tower, and A Taste for Death. The first, Shroud for a Nightingale, was published in 1971.

In Shroud for a Nightingale, the story focuses on the young women of Nightingale House, where they learn to nurse the sick. However, when a student is killed, Dalgliesh must hunt down a murderer who seems to believe that murder is a cure for all ills.
