Dalbeattie woman takes a big dive to help the Samaritans

A Dalbeattie legal secretary has taken her fundraising for the Samaritans to over £1,000 – by throwing herself out of a plane.

And Sarah Fergusson so enjoyed her sky dive at Lancaster on Saturday that she’s already planning another jump – this time unaccompanied.

Sarah, 24, who works for a firm of solicitors in Dumfries, has taken £543 in pledges so far, smashing her £400 target.

Her sponsored walk in aid of the good cause last October also raised around £500.

She said: “I just wanted to do more for the Samaritans.

“It was amazing and I had no fear – I’d do it all again tomorrow.

“I’m going to do an accelerated free fall next July where you do the jump on your own and without an instructor.”

Sarah feels strongly that the Samaritans offer a vital lifeline for anyone struggling with their mental health.

“They are very close to my heart,” she said.

“They have helped
in the past and I just
wanted to give something back.

“I have also applied to help at the Dumfries branch of the Samaritans by taking phone calls.”

Anyone wishing to donate can still do so at Sarah’s Just Giving page.
