A Dalbeattie woman is closing in on a cycling milestone.
Margie Bryson has been cycling every day since she took up mountain biking on May 1 last year.
And she hopes when she passes the one-year anniversary she’ll have raised hundreds of pounds for a cause close to her heart.
Margie said: “I lost my sister to cancer last year and she left a daughter who has special needs, so I thought I would raise money to help with her care.
“I wanted it to be a more personal one rather than a big charity.
“I started last May and have cycled every day since then. I do a minimum of 10k, although I do more than that most days, but that’s the minimum I do if I’m having a bad day.
“I wasn’t a big biker but it’s something that helps clear my head and also lose a bit of weight and get me fitter.
“It’s mainly in Dalbeattie forest and it’s good for my mental health – you see a lot of other people out there doing it for the same reason.”
Margie took up mountain biking during lockdown and decided to combine it with some fundraising after sister Katherine died in November.
By the time May 1 comes round she will have cycled every day for a year, including Christmas Day and her 50th birthday.
She’s already covered more than 3,000 miles and by next month she will have climbed more than 20,000 feet.
She added: “The rest of my family are big bikers. They have a cycling group called Dalbeattie Hairy Bikers but I usually just used to take the photos for them.
“I used to own Barend Riding Centre so I had been into the forest on a horse but not a bike before.”
