Dalbeattie Star got back to winning ways on Tuesday night.
The Islecroft side headed into their trip to Gala Fairydean Rovers on the back of two successive defeats, having won all five of their opening fixtures.
And they picked up another three points in the Borders with a fine 2-0 victory.
Dean Brotherston opened his Star account when he put his side in front midway through the first half.
And the prolific Russell Currie added his second after an hour as Star went joint top of the Lowland League before the Wednesday night fixtures.
The win allowed Ritchie Maxwell’s side to put Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Spartans behind them.
Jamie Dishington had opened the scoring in the first half when he forced the ball home at a goalmouth scramble.
Blair Henderson doubled the lead from the spot after the break after Dishington had been taken out by Star keeper Darren Holt.
Star were given a penalty of their own 10 minutes from the end after a foul by Michael Bolochoweckyj, Russell Currie converting.
And hopes of a comeback raised further when Spartans’ Sam Jones was shown a straight red card.
However, in stoppage time Scott Maxwell found the net with the help of the post to seal victory for the visitors.
Saturday sees Star take on one of the Old Firm youth sides for the first time.
Celtic and Rangers have been allowed to enter B teams in the Lowland League this season in a bid to help player development. And on Saturday, Star go to Airdrie to face a Celtic side that hit double figures against Vale of Leithen at the weekend.
