Dalbeattie Star gearing up for busy end to Lowland League season

Dalbeattie Star are gearing up for a packed end to the season.

Last week’s games against Celtic and Hearts’ colts sides were both called off due to the bad weather.

That means the Lowland League basement boys will be playing two games a week for the foreseeable future.

Star boss Eddie Warwick said: “It is a busy schedule coming up, we have two games a week for the next four weeks.”

This weekend Star host Bo’ness United at Islecroft, with the Hearts game rearranged for the following Wednesday.

Despite not playing at the weekend, Star’s hopes of beating the drop were dealt a blow on Saturday when relegation rivals Edinburgh University recorded a rare victory.

The students beat Cumbernauld Colts 3-1 to open up a four point lead over Star, although they have now played three games more.

Star have seven games left to get the necessary points to avoid finishing bottom.
