Dalbeattie Star boss hopes weather allows pre-Christmas run of games

Dalbeattie Star boss Eddie Warwick is hoping to get a run of games in before the end of the year – if the weather allows it.

After a blank weekend, the Lowland League’s bottom club is due to return to action this weekend when they take on Hearts B away from home.

And it’s the first of a run of games on grass ahead of the end of 2022, with Warwick hoping the majority of them are able to go ahead so his team can finish the year on a high.

Warwick said: “The grass pitches struggle at this time of year and our next five games are all on grass which is a concern.

“It can be difficult to get momentum but we’ll be ready.

“The last time we got a win against Berwick we were hit by two cup games so our league momentum was broken.

“Then we got a good point against East Stirling and we got hit with a free week.

“I wouldn’t mind a run of games between now and Christmas. Hopefully the next five or six games are on, we can get a good run and pick up some points.”

Saturday’s game with Hearts B had been scheduled for the start of November but was postponed due to the weather.

The Edinburgh side had reportedly been looking for the game to be moved to a midweek date but it is still scheduled for this weekend at Ferguson Park, home of Whitehill Welfare.

Warwick said: “As far as we’re concerned, it’s Hearts away this Saturday and we’ll be there.

“We want to go and play, we don’t want all these empty dates.

“We did extra fitness work on Saturday to get the players prepared and we’ll be ready to go.”

Since replacing Jordan Williamson in September, Warwick has brought in a number of new players including Adam Uphill, Lewis Campbell and striker Francis Kilpatrick who was sent off against East Stirlingshire.

And while still looking to add to the squad, Warwick says no more new arrivals are imminent.

He added: “It’s getting close to the transfer window so we’re looking at who is coming back to clubs and who is available.

“We need to try to get a settled run to look at the players and the ones we’ve added. “
