Dalbeattie Star are aiming to scratch a seven-year itch on Saturday.
Not since 2014 have they won a game in the Scottish Cup, the Islecroft side eliminating Golspie Sutherland before going on to lose at Linlithgow Rose.
But they have a chance to put that right on Saturday when they face Newtongrange Star, currently sitting bottom of the East of Scotland Premier Division.
Boss Ritchie Maxwell said: “I was probably playing last time we won! It’s something we need to put right.
“It is a competition everyone wants to play in. You want to stay in it as long as possible and to get a glamour tie if you can. We are under no illusions that we need to apply ourselves properly and be prepared to play to a level we can to give ourselves a chance to get through.
“They played Civil Service Strollers from the Lowland League in the cup at the weekend so hopefully we can get a chat with some of the guys from Civil to see how they shaped up and played.
“However, we want to focus on ourselves as we have done in the league. We’ll look to play the way we want to play and if we turn up and play levels we have got a great chance of progressing. I’m sure Newtongrange will think the same.”
One competition Star won’t be enjoying success in this season is the SFA South Region Challenge Cup.
Maxwell made several changes for Saturday’s game against Whitletts Victoria, the Ayr side winning 1-0 thanks to a first half header from Louis Kerr.
The gaffer said: “We made seven changes from the week before just to give the boys that have come in on loan from Queens a bit of game time and some of the boys who haven’t had a lot since the start of the season. Liam Park was back after missing two weeks so we managed to get him 60 minutes which was good.
“We’re obviously disappointed about the result. We wanted to progress in the cup but unfortunately we were unable to break them down. It was two contrasting styles of play. They went long early to hit a target man. We tried to play football and we made mistakes.
“The boys were a bit rusty and you could tell there were a few who hadn’t had a lot of game time. Both teams created opportunities but unfortunately we couldn’t take one.”
Saturday saw a debut for midfielder Dom McMahon who has arrived on loan from Queen of the South.
Maxwell added: “Dom has played a handful of first team games but with Queens signing a couple of boys in the last couple of weeks he’s fallen a bit further down the pecking order. He wants to come here to get game time and we’re delighted to bring him in.”
