Dalbeattie sawmill firm takeover could lead to jobs boost

Jobs are set to be created at a Dalbeattie sawmill after its owners were taken over.

BSW Timber has been bought by Austrian firm Binderholz, subject to approval from the financial authorities.

And the deal looks set to lead to expansion at their site in Dalbeattie.

A spokesman for BSW Timber said: “It’s an exciting time for the BSW Group.

“The headcount will be increasing at our Dalbeattie site and we are still continuing with our significant ongoing recruitment campaign to fill our vacancies at the site.”

The Dalbeattie plant is one of seven sawmills operated in the UK by BSW, with the firm and their new owners planning “significant” investment to increase capacity.

BSW chief executive Tony Hackney said: “The long-established name of BSW will remain and business will be as normal, with much greater opportunity to supply a wider basket of products.

“We will be enhancing our capabilities to further expand our capacity and grow further in supply to all sectors.

“We are all excited and thoroughly committed to support the business through a transitionary period under new ownership and have demonstrated our ability to do this.”

Reinhard Binder, chairman of Binderholz group added: “The acquisition of BSW will strengthen Binderholz’s capabilities and further broaden BSW’s product offering and service to customers.”

The takeover comes just weeks after BSW was fined £300,000 over an incident in 2017 when a worker lost his leg after being crushed by a concrete panel at the Dalbeattie sawmill.
