Dalbeattie's Alma McFadyen Care Centre hosts garden party for staff and residents

There were smiles all round at the Alma McFadyen Care Centre in Dalbeattie as staff and residents came together for a garden party.

Many of the senior citizens had been shut off from each other for weeks under Covid-19 shielding rules.

Manager Leanna Mitchell said: “It was the residents who suggested a barbecue and garden party.

“They love getting outdoors and we had been thinking about how we could do different things to keep them entertained and give them a wee bit of exercise.

“They had not seen each other for a while because they have been isolating in their rooms.

“To see their faces when they were reunited with each other and meeting staff was really emotional.”

Leanna added: “We just thought with the good weather it would be really nice for the residents.

“The whole day was just a lovely bit of togetherness.”

Games included badminton and quizzes.

Leanna said: “We had music and all the legs and hands we going.

“Some who were able were dancing as well.

“We had garden games and the residents absolutely loved it.

“Even staff who were off came in to support it as well.”
