Dalbeattie park's new rocking horse is an early Christmas present for kids

Dalbeattie kids have received an early Christmas present – a new rocking horse in Colliston Park.

The previous cuddy was corroded beyond repair and many feared there was neigh chance of a replacement.

But the council rode to the rescue and installed the new machine after a plea from Dalbeattie Community Council.

Chairman Robert McGoldrick said: “There has been this nostalgic connection between the park and the rocking horse through the generations.

“Although it’s a new horse there has been one in Colliston Park for 100 years.

“Dalbeattie has a long and nostalgic connection with the rocking horse and this keeps that continuity going.”

With the community council unable to meet because of the pandemic Mr McGoldrick asked local councillors Rob Davidson and Davie Stitt to intervene.

“They spoke to the works department and the work was done,” he said.

“They managed to chase things along and give it a shove.

“The new horse fills the gap that was left.

“It’s not the original – but Dalbeattie still has a rocking horse.”
