Dalbeattie Museum ready to open for 2023 season

Dalbeattie Museum will reopen for the season this weekend.

Final preparations are being made at the volunteer-run facility, which is popular with locals and visitors alike.

Always of interest is the Titanic display, as the ship’s First Officer William Murdoch was born in the town.

This year marks 30 years since founder Tommy Henderson opened the museum for the first time in 1993.

Since then it has gone from strength to strength – although it was closed for two years during the pandemic – and in 2009 received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The charity-run facility is entirely run by volunteers and new helpers are always welcome.

Anyone interested should contact the museum on 01556 611657.

The museum will reopen on Saturday, April 1 and will be open 11am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday thereafter.
