Dalbeattie High School pupil Rebecca Boardman after taking bronze at Ball Hockey Junior World Cup

A Dalbeattie High School pupil is back in training after winning a bronze medal at the ball hockey Junior World Cup earlier this summer.

Rebecca Boardman is now a candidate for the GB u20s squad after her success at the tournament at Cesta Trebova in the Czech Republic in June.

The 15 year-old had to contend with searing 35C-degree heat in four games against top opposition including Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Opposition was tough as ball hockey is a hugely popular sport in Eastern Europe and part of the national curriculum from primary school onwards.

Rebecca’s proud dad James said: “Each game was a huge challenge but the GB team played extremely well and did enough to return home with the bronze medal.

“Rebecca thoroughly enjoyed the World Cup.

“It was an amazing experience and she made lots of new friends.”

“Preparations for the 2020 World Cup are now under way.

“Rebecca is training hard and is having her first trials for the GB u20s team this month.”
