Pupils at Dalbeattie High School can look their best – while helping the environment at the same time.
A clothing library is being set up in the school with brand new and preloved outfits available to students of all ages.
And it’s hoped the project will help reduce the amount of clothes heading to landfill after barely being worn.
Teacher Alice Walkinshaw said: “Upcycling is a big trend with celebrities at the moment.
“I had the idea when I was clearing out my daughter’s wardrobe and discovered how many dresses she had!
“We started it with the Christmas dance in mind but it’s something we’d like to keep going as kids have weddings or big nights out.
“They can come along, take something to borrow and return it when they’re finished.
“We were going to do it for nothing as a lending library but some of the kids said they’d rather pay, so we’re going to charge £1, which we can put towards cleaning costs.
“We’ve had a lot of amazing donations already. The Preloved charity shop has donated some to us, which was really nice of them.
“A lot of the stuff we have been given still has labels on it. We don’t want it to look like old, second hand stuff so we’re really pleased we’ve got a lot of new things in as well.
“We have a Christmas fair in the school and we’re hoping to showcase it there with a red carpet event.”
The school is keen for donations suitable for boys or girls from S1 through to S6.
