Dalbeattie Community Association Allotments to open to the public on July 18

A Galloway grow your own success story will put its vegetable patches on display to the public on Sunday.

Dalbeattie Community Association Allotments will welcome visitors from 2pm to 5pm under the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.

The association was formed in 2008 and the site was officially opened in August, 2010.

A local landowner has leased the land for 25 years at a peppercorn rent of £1 per year. Initially it was for the provision of some 47 plots. The uptake was so strong that the area under cultivation was increased and the location now features 81 productive plots where local residents can grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Visitors are invited to enjoy a stroll around the site, see what has been achieved, chat to members or relax in one of the community areas.

Information will be available and photos of the development of the site will be on display.

Entry is £3, children free and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic.

All proceeds from the open day, the latest in a local series of similar events, will go to Dalbeattie Community Initiative and Scotland’s Gardens Charities.
