Dalbeattie Civic Daze continues online with popular scarecrow competition

Dalbeattie’s annual civic celebrations have been taking place online.

While the coronavirus pandemic has put paid to much of the programme, including Civic Day itself, the committee has pushed ahead with a number of events.

They included the pet show and walking treasure hunt as well as a scarecrow competition.

Dalbeattie Civic Daze chairman Jim Dingwall said: “Saturday would have been civic day and the weather was ideal but there’s not much we can do about it.

“We have had 17 entries for the scarecrow competition and the photos have been taken, with the one that gets the most likes on Facebook being the winner.

“The pictures from the virtual pet show have gone to Roddy Dunse, the vet that normally does it, for judging.

“There were more than 30, which is fantastic.

“Quite a few people have done the walking treasure hunt, which has been extended to the middle of the week.”

The committee is also hoping to hold a magic square competition to raise funds.
