Dalbeattie branch of Legion Scotland to mark 100th anniversary of war memorial

The Dalbeattie branch of Legion Scotland is making plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the town’s war memorial.

A special service will be held at the memorial in Colliston Park on Saturday, September 4, at noon.

Guests coming include two granddaughters of Duncan Alexander, who unveiled the memorial in 1921, and also the great grandson of Mr Maxwell who spoke at the unveiling.

Local politicians, the Lord Lieutenant of the Stewartry and ministers have also been invited.

Wreaths will be laid, including one provided to the branch to mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Royal British Legion.

The memorial and surrounding path and fences will also be given a clean-up ahead of the service.
