Dalbeattie and District Lions have completed a community service project to refurbish benches on the Kippford to Rockcliffe Jubilee Path which was in a bad state of repair.
The track is a boundary for the National Trust for Scotland and Forestry and Land Scotland and while NTS will install benches on the walk, the funders and donors are responsible for maintenance.
The benches were installed years ago and time has taken a toll – with some in poor condition and others starting to disintegrate.
Lions president Lynda Burns said: “These benches are extremely popular with local residents and holiday walkers.
“Dalbeattie Lions thought it would be a good idea to bring them back to life for the benefit of our community.
“Hire and Supplies in Dumfries loaned us two sets of tools free of charge to enable us to complete the task.
“After cleaning them up we gave them a couple of coats of stain. Passers by were delighted by our efforts and thanked us for the job we did.”
Meanwhile, plaques on the benches so weathered that they had become unreadable are to be replaced by the Lions with new stainless steel ones. Lynda added: “The National Trust for Scotland have also been delighted with our efforts.
“We are to have a meeting with them on the path when everything is finished so we can meet everyone involved.
“But it was very satisfying to see the end result.
