Dakota Johnson got rid of her tooth gap and Twitter is not happy

Dakota Johnson has responded to a Twitter 'outcry' after the actress was seen without her tooth gap.

"First of all, the fact that this is a news-worthy event in our world right now is pretty sha-ka-khan to me," she told Jimmy Fallon.

"I had a permanent retainer since I was like, 13, and it was just glued to the back of my teeth, and I was having a lot of neck problems recently so my orthodontist, she decided it would be a good idea to take it off and see if my jaw sort of expanded."

"It helped me, and my gap closed by itself," she added. "I'm really sad about it too."

Fans of Dakota Johnson were upset to discover her latest bit of orthodontic work.

The tooth gap has long been celebrated in fashion and beauty campaigns by supermodels such as Lindsey Wixon, Georgia May Jagger, Jessica Hart and Lily Aldridge.

The actress was photographed gap-less at The Peanut Butter Falcon premiere - a move which Twitter fans reacted to in typically OTT Twitter fan style.

One user said the gap was a legend.

Another asked for Venmo payments to help her through the sad times.

One even wrote Johnson's tooth gap a memorial card.

Some were upset because they looked up to Johnson as a role model for all 'gappers.'

Others offered to fill her shoes.

Though there was a hint of praise (after an expression of sadness, of course) from one user.

If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that Dakota Johnson’s tooth-gap has a Twitter following that’s quite possibly more involved than her Anastasia Steele fanbase.
