Dak Prescott injury latest: Dallas Cowboys quarterback undergoes surgery and out for season

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has reportedly undergone surgery in hospital after suffering a significant injury to his right leg during a game against the New York Giants Sunday.

In the third quarter, Prescott immediately called for assistance from the sidelines after his ankle buckled under the weight of Giants defensive back Logan Ryan.

The 27-year-old was in tears as he was taken off the field and raised a fist as the limited crowd at AT&T Stadium cheered him on.

ESPN reported Prescott was due to undergo surgery on Sunday night.

Players from around the league offered prayers and voiced support for Prescott, who was off to a great start with three straight games of 450 yards passing.

"Big time Prayers up man @dak !!!!" Kansas City Chief quarterback Patrick Mahomes wrote on Twitter.

"Devastated for @dak - one of the truly great people in the NFL," former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman wrote.

Prescott was replaced by backup quarterback Andy Dalton, who helped finish the drive with a touchdown by running back Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys went on to win 37-34 and improve to 2-3 on the season.
