Daizen Maeda to Celtic transfer 'in final stages' as option to buy fee revealed for Yokohama goal machine

Celtic are in the "final stages" in their attempt to sign Yokohama F. Marinos forward Daizen Maeda, according to a report in Japan.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has made no secret of his desire to dip back into the J-League market that has already served him so well with top scorer Kyogo Furhuhashi.

The former Vissel Kobe man notched his eighth league goal of the season against Hearts in midweek but with sidekick Jota going off injured in the same game it was a sign January reinforcements are needed.

And Yahoo Japan claim a deal for Celtic to sign Maeda - top scorer of the Japanese top flight along with Leandro Damiao of Kawasaki Frontale - is almost complete.

They insist a transfer fee of around 200 million yen (£1.5m) is set for the summer window with an initial loan agreement from January.

It's also claimed work visas should not be an issue given Maeda's involvement with the Japanese national team and call-ups to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics side.

Maeda scored his 23rd league goal of the season in the early hours of this morning as he and Damiao traded blows in a 1-1 draw between Yokohama - Postecoglou's former side - and Kawasaki.
