Daizen Maeda to Celtic transfer close as striker set for loan with buy option

Celtic have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Daizen Maeda on loan until the end of the season.

And it's believed they will have the option to buy the hitman for less than €2m (£1.7m).

Ange Postecoglou has been eyeing a reunion with his former Yokohama F.Marinos striker throughout the season as he looks to add some firepower to his squad.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been firing but Giorgos Giakoumakis is yet to hit the ground running and Albian Ajeti hasn't impressed.

Maeda quickly emerged as the main target as they hunt for a new striker.

And according to various outlets in Japan, including Hochi news, the deal is now nearing completion with Japanese football journalist Dan Orlowitz even tweeting that it is "done."

Celtic are expected to sign him on an initial loan until the summer and maintain the option to make it permanent if he impresses.

It comes as deals for Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi are also being hashed out and reports in Japan suggest those deals could soon follow.
