Daizen Maeda reveals Celtic chats with Kyogo that convinced him to sign as he sets himself ambitious target

Daizen Maeda has revealed Kyogo talked him into signing for Celtic while the two were on Japan duty together.

And now he's officially a Celtic player, he's vowed to be even better than his countryman.

Ange Postecoglou knows the J-League well and recruited Kyogo from Vissel Kobe in the summer.

He's been a smash-hit with 16 goals already, so there was much excitement when Maeda was brought in alongside fellow Japanese stars Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

But Maeda isn't settling for playing second fiddle as he's vowed to outshine Kyogo in green and white.

He revealed Kyogo talked him into the move when the two were on Japan duty together and he's now hoping to make an even bigger splash in Glasgow.

He said in an interview with Celtic TV: "Kyogo has been playing really well, and I have to do even better to be successful. I will try my best.

"When I met him at the international team, I was asking him about Celtic and he was telling me lots of good things about Celtic so I am really looking forward to it.

"Kyogo is doing very well and in the past there was Shunsuke Nakamura, so of course there is a lot of interest in Japan.I hope there will be more support in Japan now."

Of the trio of new arrivals, Postecoglou perhaps knows Maeda the best from his time managing Yokohama F.Marinos.

And pacey Maeda is looking forward to playing under his old boss once again.

He said: "I know the manager from before so I'm really looking forward to it.

"He's always playing attacking football so I'm looking forward to playing that again with him.

"My strength is my speed. I like to use my speed to attack opponents and try to get as many goals as possible."
