Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate get Celtic debut green light as Japan chiefs pave way for Hibs clash

New Celtic signings Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate are free to debut against Hibs after being removed from Japan's Kirin Cup squad.

The duo, alongside fellow J-League arrival Yosuke Ideguchi, should now be available for the Premiership clash at Celtic Park on Monday, January 17.

Maeda and Hatate had been drafted in to face Uzbekistan on Saturday, January 21 but the Japanese FA have announced they will no longer be involved.

They could now feature against the Hibees and when Celtic take on Alloa in the Scottish Cup on Sunday, January 22.

However, uncertainty remains over their availability for upcoming meetings with Hearts, Dundee United and Rangers on January 26, 29 and February 2.

Japan have vital World Cup 2022 qualifiers against China and Saudi Arabia on January 27 and February 1 for which Maeda and Hatate - as well as Kyogo Furuhashi - are expected to be called up.
