Daithi O Se says he kicked 30 cigarettes a day habit cold turkey

Presenter Daithi O Se has revealed how he kicked his 30 cigarettes a day habit cold turkey.

The Kerryman, who appeared on Angela Scanlon's show Ask Me Anything last night, said the side effects of giving them up resulted in severe withdrawal symptoms that had him feeling pain in every inch of his body.

Speaking on the show, the 44-year-old said: "I haven't smoked in a long time, 10 or 15 years. I smoked about 30 cigarettes a day.

"I would go back to TG4 with two boxes of cigarettes and the way I gave them up was I just went cold turkey.

"I remember having withdrawal symptoms and I had pains in my toes and knees, teeth. I came so close to going back to smoking.

"I remember I stopped and after two weeks I stopped coughing up all this phlegm. I know, it's disgusting.

"I haven't smoked since but I love the smell of them."

On the show, Daithi also spoke about 'man Spanx', his feral upbringing, accidentally setting his mother's clothesline on fire and his rose-tinted memories of laying eyes on his now wife for the first time.

Meanwhile, actress Charlene McKenna has said how excited she is to be working with comedian Graham Norton.

The Bloodlands star said her new boss is everything she could have hoped for.

The 37-year-old said: "I finally got to meet Graham. He is exactly how you would hope and dream.

"He's exactly how he is on the TV. I just love him."

And when asked about her outstanding singing voice, Charlene said she believes people are just telling her she can hold a tune when secretly she can't.

She added: "I do not like singing. I still believe it's a large conspiracy. I'm the opposite of people who think they can sing on X-Factor.

"I think that people are just not telling me that I can't and that I'm just making a holy show of myself."
