Daithi O'Se joins Doireann Garrihy on RTE 2FM show after Eoghan McDermott's departure

Rose of Tralee host Dáithí Ó Sé joined 2FM Breakfast presenter Doireann Garrihy on the show today.

It comes days after RTE confirmed that former co-presenter Eoghan McDermott would not be returning.

Ó Sé is the latest guest co-host to appear on the Breakfast show with Doireann Garrihy, joining the likes of sketch artists Conor Moore, since McDermott took annual leave more than two weeks ago.

Posting on her Instagram this morning, Garrihy said that she had “a long day of filming yesterday, with another one today, tomorrow and Friday, but we’ll keep moving.”

The popular Irish talk show presenter is no stranger to the mic, co-hosting the Today show with Sinéad Kennedy and Maura Derrane since 2012, currently in its ninth season.

The Today co-host recently posted a picture of himself and Sinéad Kennedy, who went on maternity leave after yesterday’s show.

RTE 2FM’s flagship show, The Breakfast Show has been on air since 1979, with Ian Dempsey serving as the show’s longest host for over nine years.

Doireann Garrihy and Eoghan McDermott were announced as the new co-hosts, when the show was rebranded back in May 2019.

The Breakfast show regularly features music and light-hearted comedy along with the RTE news bulletins in the weekday mornings.

Ireland’s 2021 Eurovision entry ‘Maps’ by Lesley Roy premiered on the Breakfast show back in late February.

The 37 year old DJ leaves the breakfast show after two years, after he took unplanned annual leave two weeks ago.

RTE confirmed McDermott’s departure in a statement, a spokesperson said: "His contract is due to expire shortly. RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show."

RTE radio hosts Carl Mullen and Marty Guilfoyle are tipped to be in the running to join Garrihy on the Breakfast Show weekdays from 6-9am.
