Daisy Ridley to return as Rey for new Star Wars trilogy?

Rey is the heroine for the light side of the Force in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars but we may not be waving goodbye to her at the end of Episode 9 after all.

According to a report from We Got This Covered, the future Star Wars trilogy from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will feature Daisy Ridley as Rey in some capacity.

The report revealed that she won't be the lead character of this new trilogy but will have a supporting role in the new story - the content of which we know nothing about.

Johnson's films are one of two film trilogies in development, with the next confirmed set of films to come from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

That trilogy is believed to cover the time period examined in the popular video game Knights of the Old Republic.

Rey will be the absolute focus of this year's Star Wars film, however, as the war between the Resistance and the First Order comes to a close and the Skywalker saga reaches its conclusion in The Rise of Skywalker.

Ridley is joined by Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, and newcomers to the franchise such as Keri Russell and Richard E. Grant.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
