Daisy Coleman dead: Teen who appeared in Netflix's Audrie & Daisy dies by suicide

Daisy Coleman, one of the teenagers - who featured in Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy - has died by suicide, her mother has announced.

According to TMZ, Melinda Coleman said her daughter took her own life on Tuesday night.  Her body was discovered after Melinda asked police to do a welfare check.

Melinda shared the tragic news in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

"My daughter Catherine Daisy Coleman committed suicide tonight," the mum wrote. "If you saw crazy messages and posts it was because I called the police to check on her. She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. I wish I could have taken the pain from her!"

The tragic news comes four years after Daisy took part in the 2016 Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy, where she alleged she had been sexually assaulted.

Daisy was 14-years-old in January 2012 when she claimed to have been sexually assaulted at a house party in Missouri, after being plied with alcohol and then left in sub-zero temperatures wearing only a t-shirt. Daisy reported the incident to the police but nobody was ever convicted.

Documentary Audrie & Daisy focused on how Daisy and her family dealt with the trauma of her alleged assault and the rejection they felt by their community aftewards.

Daisy told how she had been taunted and harassed both at school and online for going to the police.

Her heartbroken mother Melissa said she 'never recovered' from what happened.

"She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone," Melissa wrote on Facebook.

The family endured another tragedy last year when Daisy's younger brother died in a car accident.

The Coleman family had moved to Missouri after their father died in a car accident.
