Daily testing to replace isolating for contacts of covid cases

Boris Johnson has said that daily testing is set to replace isolating for people who have been 'pinged'.

Anyone who comes into contact with someone positive for the virus would normally receive a message from Track and Trace asking them to isolate but that is now being replaced with daily testing instead.

Speaking at a press conference tonight, Mr Johnson said: "As omicron spreads in the community, we will also introduce daily tests for contacts instead of isolation, so we keep people safe while minimising disruption to daily life."

He has also reintroduced previous measures such as working from home and wearing masks in public venues as he announced the move to bring Plan B into place.

It comes after the latest variant of Covid-19 is on the rise throughout the UK.

Speaking tonight he said: "While the picture may get better, and I sincerely hope that it will, we know that the remorseless logic of exponential growth could lead to a big rise in hospitalisations and therefore, sadly, in deaths."

He added: "Let's do everything we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones this winter, and reduce the pressures on our NHS."
