A total of 366 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Tokyo on Thursday, Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike said. It is the first time the daily figure has exceeded 300.
The previous high was 293 on Friday July 17. This is the 15th consecutive day that the number has surpassed 100.
Tokyo has now reached a cumulative total of 10,420 cases.
Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura revealed on a TV program that the prefecture saw 103 or 104 new cases on Thursday. Osaka Prefecture's figure has now exceeded 100 for two days in a row, with a record high of 121 on Wednesday.
Hyogo and Nara prefectures on Thursday marked record highs since the lifting of a state of emergency in May, with 35 newly confirmed cases in Hyogo Prefecture and 13 in Nara Prefecture.
