In addition, our sister paper the Sunday People has been shortlisted for Campaign of the Year for their care home crisis investigation.

Around 80 judges spent three weeks reading more than 800 entries to come up with the shortlists for each award category.

Alison Phillips, editor of the Daily Mirror, said: “We are very proud that the Mirror’s journalism has been recognised in this hugely competitive awards.

“But for us, really, the only judges that matter are those loyal people who read us day in, day out.

"Our priority will always be fighting campaigns, holding power to account and entertaining with showbiz and sport, for our readers.”

The winners will be announced in a virtual ceremony on December 9.
