Daily Memu trains set to chug on Indore-Ujjain route soon

INDORE: Commuters from Ujjain, Fatehabad and Indore are all set to get a daily passenger train service with the Railways planning to introduce Memu trains on the section. A proposal regarding the same has been sent to the board by the Ratam division.

Divisional railway manager (Ratlam) Vineet Gupta said that they were planning to open Ujjain-Fatehabad rail section for passenger train operations with the introduction of Memus.

"A proposal to introduce Memu train service on this section has been sent to the board. If all goes well, we will introduce a couple of Memu trains on this new converted rail section very soon to provide connectivity to Indore and other major stations of the division," DRM Gupta told TOI.

Gupta said that having a Memu or electric multiple unit (EMU) train service is for convenience of short distance travellers, who, in the lack of a regular train service on short intervals, opt for buses, taxis or private vehicles. "A final decision in this regard will be taken only on the basis of approval from the board," he added.

Official sources of the Ratlam division of the Western Railway said two Memu s have been proposed for the Indore-Fatehabad-Ujjain section.
