Jason Kenny may have just equalled Sir Chris Hoy’s British record of six cycling gold medals, but seems that’s not enough to make you a household name in the Daily Mail. “Golden kiss” shouts the front page of the Daily Mail’s third edition, with the subhead “Laura Trott and fiancé make history as they both storm to victory”. Clearly being one of the top British Olympians of all time isn’t enough to earn a mention alongside the golden girl of British cycling. Will “quiet man” Kenny now follow Dan Goodfellow – who was ignored in many reports or described as “Tom Daley’s synchronised diving partner” and was largely ignored by most media after winning a bronze – in being written out of history? Let’s just hope the Queen doesn’t refer to Kenny as “Laura’s fiancé” if the cyclists both get well-deserved honours.
