Daily Mail edits out Tottenham Hotspur coach from sports picture

Here's a case of blatant photographic manipulation. The picture in the middle, published on the front page of the Guardian sports section and also in the Daily Telegraph, shows Tottenham's Emmanuel Adebayor giving a salute after scoring his second goal in a 5-1 trouncing of Sunderland.

His manager, Tim Sherwood, and another member of the Spurs coaching squad, Chris Ramsey, return his gesture with salutes of their own.

It's a striking image with a message, because Sherwood is likely to leave the club after a string of poor results.

But it just wasn't striking enough for the Daily Mail. It used the same photograph on its back page, on the left in the image, but the man in the middle disappeared. He was photoshopped out of the picture.

He also vanished from the Daily Mirror's similar back page, on the right in the image. But the paper was subtle enough to run a headline, "Aye, aye, bye, bye" in the space between Adebayor and Sherwood to cover its digital sleight of hand.
