There has been speculation that Daily Express owner Richard Desmond is desperate for a peerage, which some have linked to his recent £1m donation to Ukip.
However, it appears that “Dirty Des” has quietly been granted another honour – he has been made a knight.
The former porn baron’s face – with trademark glasses – currently appears on a massive banner showing the Express’s crusader logo that is lashed to the rooftop of the paper’s HQ.
“Express Group for the best news,” an even bigger banner shouts from the rooftops – presumably the best news about Nigel Farage’s election prospects.
Desmond, who has worn many hats over his career – Express proprietor, Channel 5 owner, drummer, porn baron – appears to have little shame about donning a helmet.
It’s just unfortunate that he’s decided to take up arms on behalf of Ukip.
