Daily challenges that Wigan Athletic have encountered as administration impacts transfer policy

Wigan Athletic manager Leam Richardson says the club are still stumbling on limitations that administration presents in the transfer window.

Latics are hopeful of adding more recruits to their current squad before the end of the January window, having already signed Tendayi Darikwa, Zach Clough and Corey Whelan on free transfers while George Johnston has joined on loan.

Richardson would like to increase his options but the implications from administration have made conducting business difficult in the closing stages of the window.

With youngsters Patrick Webber, Joe Piggott and Charlie Jolley being allowed to leave, there is one vacancy remaining in Wigan's 23-man squad of which they intend to fill before Monday.

Despite the 5-0 pummeling from Blackpool in midweek, Richardson is confident that his current crop of Wigan players are capable of mustering a response and climbing up the league table.

“It’s a daily challenge, we’re still finding out on a daily basis things we’re allowed to do and things we aren’t,” said Richardson.

“The administrators are doing their best with certain things, constantly in touch with the EFL, and the coaching staff here are also doing everything they can, as are the players.

"Nothing has changed. We lost three points, but it's all we've lost. So on reflection, the last time we had a negative result on a Tuesday night we got our heads down and went on a little bit of a run, so moving forward it's important that we do that now."
