Daigneault provides injury update on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander underwent imaging for his foot injury and will be reevaluated in two weeks, head coach Mark Daigneault said before the game Friday.

“He’s definitely progressed, but not to the point we would have liked,” Daigneault said. “He’s probably a little bit behind what we were looking for.”

Gilgeous-Alexander suffered plantar fasciitis in his right foot and has not played since March 12.

Prior to the injury, he was having a career year, averaging 23.7 points, 5.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 51% from the field and 42% from 3.

Oklahoma City is 1-12 since his injury.

When Gilgeous-Alexander is evaluated in two weeks, the Thunder will have about nine games remaining on the schedule. Daigneault said the team has not ruled out the guard’s return this season.

“We’re kind of just moving it down the road for another two weeks and we’ll re-evaluate it again then,” he said. “Not ruling anything out in any directions.

Until then, Gilgeous-Alexander will be able to do more basketball and workout activity than he has been in recent weeks.

Oklahoma City, with a record of 20-36, will next play on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
