Dai Young investigation set to drag into summer as Cardiff face difficult period

The uncertainty over the future of Cardiff director of rugby Dai Young looks set to drag on into the summer.

It is understood Young was suspended ahead of Cardiff's Judgement Day clash with the Ospreys after the club received a number of complaints from disgruntled employees.

While the exact nature of the allegations remain unclear, WalesOnline understands an investigation is currently under way which is likely to take a number of weeks.

The former Wales prop returned to the club in 2021 after a nine-year stint at Wasps. He had previously been in charge at Cardiff between 2003 and 2011, helping them lift the European Challenge Cup in 2010.

There has been radio silence from the Arms Park outfit, who have not once commented on the situation given its sensitive legal nature.

Young was in attendance at a memorial at Llandaff Cathedral on Thursday to celebrate the life of former Cardiff chairman and benefactor Peter Thomas, who sadly passed away last month, but his future at the club remains shrouded in mystery. You can read about the moving service for Thomas here.

Cardiff will be the only Welsh side in next season's Heineken Champions Cup after they won the United Rugby Championship's Welsh Shield at Judgement Day.

It comes after Cardiff announced 16 players were leaving this summer amid deep cuts to the squad that have seen a number of internationals exit.
