Dahntay Jones officially signs with Clippers for remainder of season

Feb. 03--As expected, the Clippers announced Tuesday that they signed Dantay Jones for the remainder of the season. The 34-year-old had signed two 10-day contracts with the Clippers, the first one beginning Jan. 14.

Jones has averaged 0.4 points, 0.1 rebounds and 0.2 steals in 3.2 minutes over nine games.

But his contribution to the team extends beyond those relatively unimpressive numbers. Blake Griffin said that Jones and Austin Rivers, whom the team signed Jan. 15, have helped the Clippers' chemistry.

"That's the type of guys that make the chemistry of the team go from good to great, and take it to another level," Griffin said Jan. 22. "They've been better than I could have asked."

Jones is a 10-year NBA veteran who has a career average of 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 16.2 minutes over 597 games with Memphis, Sacramento, Denver, Indiana, Dallas, Atlanta and Los Angeles. With the Clippers, he's made a name for himself by cheering on his teammates from the bench, raising the team's energy level.

Before joining the Clippers this season, Jones was playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League, where he averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.2 minutes a game.
