Electronic music duo Daft Punk are set to provide the score to Dario Argento’s forthcoming film Occhiali Neri (”Black Glasses”).
In an interview with Repubblica, the revered horror filmmaker revealed that Daft Punk had been in touch and offered to collaborate after hearing about his next release.
Occhiali Neri is scheduled to begin filming in September. Argento has described it as a crime film, focusing on a Chinese girl and child in nocturnal Rome and Lazio.
Daft Punk, comprised of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, have not released a studio album since Random Access Memories in 2013.
They have, however, released a small number of remixes in the years since, and featured on two tracks of The Weeknd‘s 2016 album Starboy.
Occhiali Neri is not the duo’s first foray into soundtracks, either: Daft Punk provided the score to the 2010 cyberpunk sequel Tron: Legacy.
Argento is a hugely important artist in the giallo horror genre, and is best known in the English-speaking world for 1977’s Suspiria. He has described Daft Punk as “admirers”.
