Dad writes heartfelt words on what it's really like to see your wife go through labour

We all know that a man's role in the labour suite is to stay calm, be supportive, and accept any abuse that comes your way for getting your partner in this situation in the first place.

That's fair enough. Men or any partner have the easy part of the deal, and emerging from the delivery room with a crushed hand and a few choice words ringing in your ears is a small price to pay for a new life.

But few men express in public what their emotions are during the process - and how it makes them feel about their other half.

One dad from Radcliffe-on-Trent, however, decided to write about just what his feelings were, alongside a personal photo taken as his wife went through a contraction.

And people have been loving Adam La Frenais' heartfelt words about his wife Becky, 35, and what she endured during 30 hours of labour.

"To say I am proud of my wife, is an understatement," the 32-year-old sales manager at Experian wrote.

"We had 9 months to get ready for this day, 9 months to get ready for a day in which would see a miracle happen.

"But nothing prepares you for these moments, the rollercoaster ride of emotions.

"The pain she was going through when this photo was taken was like nothing I could imagine.

"Three times every ten minutes, her body would go through a contraction, meaning her body was preparing itself to give birth. Each contraction came with searing, prolonged pain. This went on for 30 hours.... 30 hours which felt like a lifetime.

"To see her in this much pain, as her husband, was incredibly upsetting but at the same time awe-inspiring. I saw the determination in her eyes. Past the tears, I saw focus, commitment and sheer power.

"Times like these define you as a person, test your willpower and strength but from seeing my wife’s overwhelming love for our daughter, it was worth every minute."

Becky, a property manager, gave girth to Molly at Nottingham City Hospital two weeks ago.

And after Adam shared his feelings on his blog The 'Trials and Tribulations' of Adam La Frenais, people have been taking to social media to say how moving his words were.

'Wonderful words,' said Alison.

'Aw that is lovely!' said Cheryl.

'How beautiful,' said PJ.

'Such lovely words brought tear to my eyes," said Yvonne.

In a personal note to Becky at the end of his message, Adam added: "I am truly honoured to be your husband, will be forever in your debt and have the utmost respect for any woman that goes through this incredible, life-changing process."
