Dad wrestles 'rubbish' car thief after leaving door unlocked - and is captured on CCTV

This is the moment CCTV footage captures a brave dad wrestling a thief to try and stop his car from being stolen.

Dad-of-two Curtis Morris, 26, had stopped off to get a drink at a store in Bedworth, Coventry while on his way to work, when the scary incident took place.

Curtis told CoventryLive he left his car door unlocked with his keys in the ignition, as he didn't plan to spend too long at the store.

However, it didn't take long for an opportunistic thief to try and steal his vehicle.

CCTV showed the thief attempting to drive off with 26-year-old's car, before Curtis is seen sprinting out of the shop after a customer informed him of what had happened.

Curtis then yanks the car door open with the vehicle still moving and wrestles with the would-be car thief.

The 26-year-old said the man inside his car claimed he had a knife, but he was determined to stop the theft.

After a few seconds, Curtis managed to pull the suspect out of the car, who then quickly flees the scene.

The dad said his adrenaline had "kicked in" and the whole ordeal was a blur, but he was over the moon that he managed to save his car.

Fortunately, Curtis suffered no injuries.

He said: "I left my engine running with my keys in to get a drink.

"I was in there for 20 seconds at most, but then heard another customer was shouting at me that he saw someone getting into my car.

"My adrenaline kicked in, it was all a blur to be fair. I can't remember much it happened so fast.

"He told me he had a knife on him as well. If someone said to me in the street I would back off, but it all didn't really register until after the scene had happened.

"I wasn't injured. The thief was quite tall, taller than me anyway.

"It was quite easy to get him out as I don't think he was an experienced car thief.

"He was rubbish at trying to steal it."

Warwickshire Police has been approached for comment.
