Dad who wore size XXXXL drops 12st after being too obese to get out of bed and help baby

A dad has dropped 12 stones after being too obese to get out of bed and help his baby.

Neil Maltman weighed 23st 2lb at his heaviest after living on hotel food and takeaways while working away from home as an electrical superintendent.

In June 2020, he was devastated after being unable to get out of bed to help his son Harry, now two, who had fallen off the bed at just eight-months-old.

After fearing for his son's life, Neil, 48, decided to make a change and contacted consultant Martin Bryan from the Cambridge Weight Plan 1:1 diet.

Having lost 12 stone, and now weighing just 11st 2lb, Neil from Glasgow, was awarded the 'Man of the Year' by The 1:1 Diet.

Neil told the Daily Record "I've worked away from home all my life and it got me into bad habits of eating hotel food, pub food, big breakfasts and the weight just began piling on.

"I had my first child Alistair in 2012 and I wasn't active enough with him at all - it made me very down and I got quite depressed and upset about it.

"I had my second child Harry in 2019 and when he was eight-months-old, we were lying in bed together watching TV when he got up and toddled quickly to the edge of the bed and fell off head first.

"It happened in a split second and as he fell down, I thought he had broke his neck and I couldn't get up to help him.

"Luckily, he was fine and by the time I got to him, he was laughing at me but in that moment, I knew I had to do something about my weight.

"I joined the The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and the weight just fell off me over time - I'm like a new man."

Neil, who was in XXXXL clothing at the time, was left devastated after being unable to play with his children, Alistair, nine, and Harry, two, due to his weight.

He explained: "I wasn't active enough with my eldest Alistair when he was younger and I was still making the same poor lifestyle choices and mistakes with my youngest Harry.

"My children were what pushed me to lose the weight because I couldn't continue to be inactive for them and it was setting a bad example.

"Now, I'm so much more active with them.

"Before, I didn't play with them, I just watched them but now, I join in with them, take them for walks in the park, take them swimming, play football and do rock climbing and we just spend so much more time together."

Neil initially cut his calories down to 1,000 a day while following The 1:1 Diet and swapped out takeaways for homemade meals and vegetables.

He added: "Because I was so big with a 56" waist and my BMI was over 52, I went on 1,000 calories a day which is a lot less than what I was eating so it was a huge shock.

"But as the weight dropped off, I didn't find the diet hard and the calories were gradually increased.

"I'd have chicken, lots of vegetables, fish, steak and some of the Cambridge Weight Plan products like soups and bars to make sure I was getting all the nutrients I needed.

"My wife Ann and my parents were so proud and over the moon and it has made such a difference to my life.
